Joseph P. Ripley graduated from Cornell in 1912. As a student, he was a member of Aleph Samach (Junior honor society), Sphinx Head (Senior honor society), Gemel Kharm (a social club), and Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He won the Sibley Prize in mechanical engineering, was elected to Tau Beta Pi (Engineering honor society) and was the manager of the Crew team.
